In the context of optimizing efforts to prevent forest and land fires (karhutla) in 2017 and following up on President Joko Widodo's directives at the 2017 National Work Meeting on Forest and Land Fire Control at the State Palace on January 23, 2017, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KemenLHK) synergizes with various parties carry out efforts to prevent forest and land fires.Director of Forest and Land Fire Control, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Raffles B. Panjaitan explained that efforts to prevent forest and land fires continue to be carried out through collaboration between Ministries/Institutions, both central and regional. The synergy was carried out between the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, TNI, POLRI, BNPB, and provincial task forces. Prevention efforts are carried out to prevent the emergence of hotspots and reduce the level of danger of forest and land fires, especially in the vulnerable provinces of Sumatra and Kalimantan. Efforts to prevent forest and land fires that have been implemented are in the form of increasing emergency status, integrated patrols, air operations which include air patrols, water bombing, artificial rain/ Weather Modification Technology (TMC), and ground operations which include independent patrols and early extinguishing.
